Meet Tonya · About Puppy Pros Training

Most people don’t come to me because their dog needs training.

They come because life with their dog has started to feel smaller. Walks get shorter. Certain situations get avoided. The simple things don’t feel so simple anymore.

And the dog? They’re not “bad.” They’re overwhelmed. That’s where I come in.

What I Believe

Training isn’t just about behavior. It’s about how a dog experiences their life.

When a dog is struggling, their world shrinks. Less freedom. Less access. More management. Everyone in the household starts tiptoeing.

But when they learn how to handle the moments that used to overwhelm them, something opens back up. They can think instead of react. They move through the world with more confidence. They can just… be a dog again.

And when a dog can be a dog again, a lot of those nuisance behaviors you’ve been living around tend to fade too. Naturally. Not because you controlled them into submission — but because the root problem is gone.

That’s the goal. Not perfection. Not control. A dog who can handle their emotions, and a life that gets bigger because of it.

How I Train

Direct. Practical. Built for real life.

Not training that looks good in a quiet room. Training that holds up at the front door, on the walk, and at 7pm when everyone’s tired.

I.

Real-world, not perfect rooms

We work where things actually matter — your home, your walks, your everyday situations. If it doesn’t translate to daily life, it doesn’t count.

II.

Built around your dog, not a rigid system

Every dog is different. I use a thoughtful mix of methods based on the dog in front of me — their behavior, their temperament, and what they actually need to succeed.

III.

Clear communication, fair expectations

I teach dogs how to regulate, not just respond. And I teach you how to reinforce what they learn, so the results hold long after we’re done working together.

IV.

Results that last past the session

A dog who can only “hold it together” during a training session isn’t truly trained. The goal is a dog who can handle the unpredictable reality of daily life — and owners who feel confident handling it with them.

Who I Work With

Owners who care enough to do something about it.

People who love their dog, and are ready to change what’s not working.

I work with dogs who are struggling in ways that make everyday life harder than it should be. Dogs who react on walks. Dogs who get overwhelmed in new or busy environments. Dogs who feel unpredictable or hard to handle.

And I work with the people who love them — people who’ve tried things, who are doing their best, who just need a clear, effective path forward.

Meet Tonya

The dog that taught me everything.

I

Where it started

Tonya's childhood collie, Snowball

I was out catching frogs as a kid — as one does — when a beautiful collie mix wandered into my life and decided I was hers. That was it. We were inseparable.

Her name was Snowball. Every adventure I had growing up, she was right there beside me. She taught me more about trust, patience, and connection than I realized at the time. And I taught her some pretty amazing tricks… although I’m fairly certain she was the one training me.

Looking back, she gave me the version of life with a dog that I now try to give back to every family I work with: no stress, no fear, just the good stuff.

II

The lesson that humbled me

After Snowball, I adopted a few adult rescue dogs who were, by sheer luck of fate, naturally well-behaved. I thought I understood dogs. I didn’t, really. Not yet.

Then in 2013, I got my first puppy. And for the first time in my life, I actually had to understand behavior — and how to change it.

She was my teacher in the hardest possible way. When she reached adolescence, my confident, friendly puppy turned reactive toward other dogs. I was completely out of my depth. I remember thinking I had done everything wrong — and, knowing what I know now, I had done quite a few things wrong.

I loved her. But because of her reactivity, our world was shrinking. Walking at 5:00 AM to avoid everyone. Peeking around corners to see if another dog was there. Turning around if I spotted one in the distance — hopefully before she did. Bracing for the worst when I couldn’t avoid it. The smaller her world got, the worse the problem became.

The smaller her world got, the worse the problem became.

So I started learning. What began as one desperate owner trying to help her own dog turned into a deep, obsessive dive into behavior, communication, and how dogs actually learn and experience the world.

And slowly, things started to change. She could handle the things that used to be too much. She relaxed. She thought. She trusted. She could walk past another dog without losing her mind, and our world got bigger again. We started going on adventures. We enjoyed outings. The quality of her life — and ours — improved immeasurably.

That experience shaped everything about how I train today.

Where I am now

The reason I show up every single day is simple. I want people to truly enjoy their dogs. Not manage them. Not tiptoe around them. Not dread the walk or hold their breath every time the doorbell rings.

Actually enjoy them. The way I enjoyed Snowball when I was a kid — no stress, no fear, just the good stuff. That feeling is what every dog owner deserves, and it’s what I work to give back to every family I train.

Now I specialize in working with dogs who are reactive, overwhelmed, or struggling to cope with everyday life. Not just to change their behavior — but to help them feel more confident, stable, and capable in the world around them. Because when that changes, everything else follows.

Today I share my life with Monkey the Frenchie, Frankie the Boston Terrier, and Birdie the Frenchton. I like to think I have the trifecta of dogs, and I still love having adventures with them every chance I get.

The Goal

By the end of training, you don’t just have a dog who behaves better.

You have a dog who feels better. A dog who can handle life. A dog whose world is bigger again.

And you’ll know exactly how to keep it that way.

Before You Book

The questions I hear most often.

Real answers to the things people actually want to know before picking up the phone.

My dog has been like this for years. Is it too late?

No. I work with dogs of all ages and a long history of reactive or difficult behavior all the time. Most of my clients come to me after the problem has been going on for months, or even years. The timeline to change depends on the dog — but “too late” is almost never the answer.

I’ve already tried other trainers. How are you different?

I hear this a lot. A lot of my clients have tried group classes, board-and-trains, or other private trainers before finding me. The difference is two things. First, I train in your real-world environments — your home, your neighborhood, your actual daily routine — not in a controlled facility. Second, my programs balance intensive trainer-handled sessions (where I work directly with your dog to accelerate progress) with an equal number of coaching sessions (where I bring you in, teach you exactly what I’m doing, and make sure you can maintain it on your own). You don’t just get a trained dog. You become a confident handler, so the results stick.

Do I have to come to you?

I come to you. I’m a mobile trainer serving Melbourne, Palm Bay, and Viera in Brevard County. We train where the problems actually happen — where the solutions need to work. If you’re outside our training area or prefer to train online, we also offer REMOTE Training.

How do I know which program is right for my dog?

Book a free consultation. I’ll meet you and your dog, learn about what’s going on, and recommend a specific path based on your situation. No pressure, no commitment — just a clear picture of what’s possible.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Flexible payment options are available, and we’ll go over everything during your consultation so you know exactly what to expect.

What training methods do you use?

Every dog is different, so I don’t follow a one-size-fits-all approach. I use a thoughtful mix of methods based on the dog in front of me — their behavior, temperament, and what they need to succeed. What stays consistent is clear communication, fair expectations, and building genuine confidence — not just compliance.

What Families Say

The proof isn’t the training. It’s the life that follows.

Tonya was a great trainer. She really went above and beyond by giving us a free phone consultation before our session, preparing, coming prepared with all materials we needed the day of, and giving us resources and information to read up on and practice at home afterwards. Her training method was explained well and easy to understand and implement. Our dog really liked her and responded well to her. I would definitely hire her again.

I can’t thank Tonya enough! Walks used to be stressful because my dog would get so worked up at the sight of other dogs. Tonya was patient, calm, and showed us how to stay relaxed and confident. She’s patient, encouraging, and made training fun. Highly recommend her!
